Though many have speculated that
today's Bungie-Activision partnership announcement was timed to help distract from the ongoing
exodus from Activision darling Infinity Ward, the
Halo dev insists that wasn't the case. In fact, Bungie's Joseph Staten said the developer was more concerned with the effect the Infinity Ward news could have on Bungie's own announcement.
"Just speaking personally, it gave us a little bit of pause because we're so excited about this news and we knew we'd have to break through a lot of noise to get the message out there," Staten said in
an interview with Joystiq today. "So, clearly that wasn't optimal."
Bungie community lead Brian Jarrard later insisted that the Infinity Ward situation wasn't addressed during the developer's meetings with Activision ... Really, guys? That didn't come up? Not even while you were waiting for your Bloomin' Onion or anything? Like, what
did you talk about?

A mystery figure has appeared in the latest update to the
God of War teaser site "
SpartansStandTall." His reflection (captured above) momentarily flashes on screen during the video loop of the site's rendered thunderstorm. This is the second update to the site; its URL is
revealed to players that unlock the
God of War 3 Platinum Trophy.
The apparent meter that circles the icon in the upper right corner of the full screen (not pictured) is now three-quarters full (it was one-quarter full to start and was filled to halfway upon the first update), suggesting that the next update will display a full meter and perhaps the
ultimate reveal. (DLC? Spin-off?
3D Blu-ray movie? It's anyone's
guess.) The icon itself is thought to be representative of the Spartan army's shield; the upside-down "V" being the Greek letter Lamba, standing for "Lacedaemon" (what the ancient Greeks called Sparta).
So who is this mystery man? He certainly looks like he could be angry. And anger has always fueled this franchise, which
still has some venting to do.
[Thanks, Geoff]

Bobby Digital has been
fully digitized, as hip-hop icon RZA recently
tweeted about motion-capture work he completed for an unnamed Activision game. Additionally, RZA posted
two images from the session on his Facebook page (one pictured above) and gave props to Activision -- and specifically the development team he worked with -- for showing a true appreciation for hip-hop and "
our work" (perhaps an allusion to Wu-Tang's extensive catalog of music and a possible hint as to the scope of the mystery game).
The vague tease from RZA leaves us with few other clues. One reasonable guess is that RZA was mo-capped for inclusion in
the next or some future iteration of the
DJ Hero franchise, but he's not known as a "DJ" per se and is more accurately credited as a producer, among other creative roles. Roughly a decade ago, RZA was one of the Wu-Tang characters featured in the Activision-published
Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style fighting game for PS1.

L.A.'s famed Grauman's Chinese theater played host over the weekend to the first ever
TCM Classic Film Festival, which turned out to be quite the old Hollywood affair: the fest spanned four days of over 50 screenings of classic films, panels, and special presentations held in the heart of iconic Hollywood, from the
Judy Garland festival opener
A Star is Born to a very special closing night screening of
Fritz Lang's
Metropolis featuring never before seen footage and live accompaniment by the Alloy Orchestra.
Throughout the weekend festival goers were treated to a host of living legends, the likes of which would make any classic movie fan's head spin -- Eva Marie Saint, Tony Curtis, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Esther Williams, Ernest Borgnine, Stanley Donen, Norman Lloyd, Mel Brooks, Eli Wallach, and Peter Bogdanovich, to name a few -- not to mention the patron saint of classic movie-watching, film historian and TCM host Robert Osborne. But if you missed the first ever TCM Classic Film Festival this year, fear not: it's coming back in 2011!
Osborne himself made the announcement to fans packing the Grauman's Chinese Sunday night before the landmark screening of
Metropolis, which made its North American debut at the fest. (The newly restored cut, featuring 25 additional minutes of recently found footage,
will be released in New York, L.A., and at the Cleveland Museum of Art in May.)
"You know, we came into this not knowing if this was going to be a one-shot, or what was going to happen," the tuxedo-clad host said to a hushed full-capacity crowd. "And because you've been so gracious and you've been so enthusiastic and everything, they're making the announcement tomorrow that there is going to be one next year."

I was looking up movie-related apps the other day, inspired by the wonderful iPad Netflix player, and I came across a new one called Miso that's just about the coolest social network movie app I've ever seen. The quick pitch? It's basically Foursquare for movies.
Instead of checking in to a location (though you can do that too, if you link your existing Foursquare account), you check in with what you're watching. Miso keeps track of your check-ins and rewards you with badges relating to specific genres (and sub-genres) of film and television. Link your Twitter or Facebook, and suddenly, you're posting what you're watching with friends and seeing what movies they're watching as well. Genius.
I was already sharing my personal viewing habits via Twitter anyway, so Miso has been especially useful in that regard. The app is still a baby (just a little over a month old), and the folks at
Bazaar Labs aren't done tweaking the features yet. There are still some obvious needs with the app, like the option to rate what you watched or apply genre tags to titles that Miso doesn't recognize (would've been useful when I was watching
Four Sided Triangle earlier today). If you're a die-hard movie geek, this app is a must-have.
You can download the iPhone/iPod app at

@gomiso on Twitter for updates.
