COLD FISH Trailer Debut!

The cult of director Sion Sono grew exponentially with the arrival of last year's stunning four hour opus Love Exposure and it looks poised to take another big leap forward with the arrival of Cold Fish. Due to screen in both the Venice and Toronto festivals, the small handful that have already seen Sono's serial killer thriller are already proclaiming it his best yet and Twitch is proud to debut both the official trailer and a handful of new stills. But first, the official synopsis:
Shamoto runs a small tropical fish shop and leads a boring, but stable life. His second wife, Taeko, does not get along with his daughter, Mitsuko, and this worries him. He also feels somehow unfulfilled and dissatisfied with what his life has become.
One day Mitsuko is caught shoplifting at a department store. There they meet a friendly man named Murata, who helps to settle things between Mitsuko and the store manager. Since Murata also runs a tropical fish shop, Shamoto establishes a bond with him and they become friends; Mitsuko even begins working for Murata and living at his house, to avoid conflicts with her stepmother.
What Shamoto doesn't know, however, is that Murata hides many dark secrets behind his friendly face. He sells cheap fish to his customers for high prices with his artful lies. If anyone detects his fraud or refuses to go along with his money-making schemes, they're murdered and their bodies disposed of by Murata and his wife in grisly ways. Shamoto is slowly taken in by Murata's tactics, and by the time he realizes that Murata is insane, and a serial killer who has made over fifty people disappear, he is powerless to do anything about it. But now Mitsuko is a hostage at Murata's home, and Shamoto himself has become the killer's unwilling accomplice!
Meanwhile, the murders, without any trace of the bodies, continue unabated. The police have long suspected Murata and try to get information about him from Shamoto; Murata quickly senses the danger and threatens Shamoto not to report anything to the police.
In the end, the conflict between Shamoto and Murata will result in murder, insanity, and an ordinary man being driven to the edge of the abyss.
Ananda Everingham Is THE RED EAGLE!

It's been a long time coming but Wisit Sasanatieng's masked superhero film The Red Eagle is almost upon us. It was years ago now that the director of Tears of the Black Tiger and Citizen Dog announced his plan to resurrect the classic superhero, originally played in a series of films in the 1960s by mega-star Mitr Chaibancha, the original star dying in a stunt gone wrong on the set of his final Red Eagle film.
And, for a while, it appeared as though this new picture may have carried over the luck of Chaibancha's final effort, with filming delayed when new star Ananda Everingham (Shutter) involved in a serious motorcycle accident just weeks before filming was due to start.
The film is nearly complete now with the final bits of post production just wrapping up for an October release. And today the first teaser for the film arrived to show off the result of all the hard work. It looks, as you would expect, spectacular. Check it below.

A nuclear power plant is about to be commissioned upon the signing of corrupt and power hungry politicians. The citizens are in frenzy, as they oppose this plan but they cannot do a thing about it. And so, a hero was born, chasing down the criminals and the corrupt, killing of whatever threatens the city's well being. He leaves a card with his name simply as "THE RED EAGLE". However, the hero becomes the hunted, when the politicians send out their best defense, known as "THE BLACK DEMON".

It's so strange it could only be true. Opening this week in Indonesian theaters is Obama: The Menteng Kid (Obama Anak Menteng) the feature film adaptation of Damian Dematra's fictionalized biographical novel of US President Barack Obama's childhood years spent in Indonesia. Basically, while it's true that Obama spent a handful of years in Indonesia as a child this is not in any way an authorized or verified biography of that time but a fictionalized version of things he may have done. The film's release has been timed to coincide with Obama's upcoming official visit to the island nation and you can see the trailer below.

Well Go USA picks up N.A. rights for Oshii’s ‘Assault Girls’

Good news everyone! Well Go USA has picked up the North American rights for Mamoru Oshii's sci-fi chicks killing worms movie Assault Girls. And they are wasting no time getting ready to dish out the goods this coming October with Japanese and English audio tracks and English subtitles.
There is yet an official press release, nor is there cover art yet, but you can be guaranteed that we will have both ready for you once word gets out.
New gallery of images for ‘Saigo no Chushingura’

Word came out last November that there would be a new Chushingura film, Saigo no Chushingura [The Last Chushingura] directed by Shigemichi Sugita. This is the first retelling of the Japanese 'national legend' since Kon Ichikawa's 47 Ronin back in 1994. The first pics started to surface back in February actually and with some current ones surfacing we have a quartet of images in a new gallery. Left, obviously, is Koji Yakusho. After the break you will also find Koichi Sato and I believe that is Nanami Sakuraba in the second image. She plays Kane, the secret daughter of Yakusho's Seo Magojaemon.
